This project doesn’t require a significant investment nor complex woodworking skills. You can build the frame of the shed out of 2×4 lumber and attach 5/8″ grooved plywood (exterior walls). Drive the 1 1/4” screws into the frame, in order to secure the sheets into place.

Make sure you install large doors to the front face of the shed, in order to have a proper access to the garden tools. Secure the doors to the frame with metal hinges, after making sure they open and close properly.

The structure should have a lean-to roof, in order to drain the water properly. Install 1×4 tongue and groove slats to build the roof of the shed. Apply several coats of paint to get the job done properly. Fit 3/4” plywood shelves inside the shed, in order to use the space efficiently.

A garden shed is a more complex construction, but you can still build it by yourself, if the right tools and woodworking skills are used. Attach the shed on concrete footings, if you want to support the weight properly. Build the floor frame of 2×6 lumber, making sure you place the joists 16″ on center. Always drill pilot holes to prevent the wood from splitting. Attach 3/4” plywood over the frame and secure the sheets to the joists with 2 1/2” galvanized screws.

Build the exterior siding out of 5/8″ grooved plywood and attach them to the frame with 1 1/4” wood screws. Work with great care and attention, if you want to get a professional result. Leave enough space for the door opening. Reinforce the jamb by installing trimmer studs and a double header.

If you want to enhance the look of your shed, you should fit trims to the corners of the shed and to the ends of the rafters. Cover the roof with felt and asphalt shingles. Apply several coats of paint or stain to protect the lumber from decay or rot.
